After enjoying a sand bath, your body and mind will feel extremely relaxed and refreshed. Most people go to the Sand Steaming Hall "Sand Music" for the most convenient. The small commemorative towel purchased at the sand bath center seems to be a must-buy, because it should be wrapped around the face when burying in the sand. As for the large towel, it is recommended that you bring your own, so you don’t have to spend an extra 300 yuan to rent it. After reaching the second floor, draw a number tag and line up to choose your plan and the towel you want to purchase. Then go into the changing room, take off all your clothes and put on a yukata, and follow the instructions to walk to the outdoor sand bath. After arriving at the sand bathing area, the staff will guide the tourists to lie down in the designated space and help them tidy up their yukata. They will then shovel sand onto their bodies until their entire bodies are buried, leaving only their heads exposed. It feels a bit heavy to be buried inside, and the calves that are not covered by the yukata will feel tingling. The temperature is slightly hot and you will sweat. After about 10 to 15 minutes, you can get up on your own and return to the room to rinse and soak in the hot spring. The indoor hot spring is not small, the temperature is about 42 degrees, and there is an oven that can be used. After soaking in the hot spring and taking a shower, the whole experience comes to an end, and I feel warm all over. We tucked a unique gem into our itinerary: Saraku Sand Bath Hall in Ibusuki, and it turned out to be one of the most unforgettable wellness experiences on our trip. You start by changing into a yukata provided by the facility. Then you lie down in a sandy pit warmed by natural geothermal heat near the beach. The staff carefully covers you with hot sand, leaving only your head exposed. It’s like being gently buried in warmth. After about 10–15 minutes, you’re uncovered and led to the indoor onsen for a relaxing rinse and soak. The sensation is very different from a typical hot spring—your body feels heavy from the warmth, but it’s incredibly calming. You’ll definitely work up a sweat, similar to a sauna, and it’s said to improve blood circulation and relieve muscle tension. We appreciated how well-organized everything was. The changing facilities were clean, and staff were helpful. Even though it was a new experience for us, it didn’t feel intimidating at all. Kids can also join in, and our family had fun sharing the experience and laughing at each other buried in sand. Overall, it was a therapeutic and novel experience that we’re glad we tried. Since I was there, I wanted to try a sightseeing train! So I made a reservation for the "Ibusuki no Tamatebako" (Ibutama for short). It was the weekend, and there were only a few trains and carriages🚃 I was worried about whether I would be able to get a reservation, but luck was on my side again and I was able to get on the train without any problems. My goal was to enjoy the sand bath♨️ Before that, I enjoyed some Ibutama pudding inside the car, which had a great atmosphere. (I didn't think it tasted that great though😢) It was so comfortable while I was buried in the sand that I fell into a deep sleep.
