Hidden Gem during Golden Week! Shaun the Sheep Farm & English Garden
We picked up our rental car in Shiga and made our way to the Shaun the Sheep Farm Garden, nestled within the English Garden Rosa & Berry Tawada in Maibara. The drive was scenic and set the tone for the charming experience ahead.
🌸 A Mini Theme Park Experience
Stepping into the farm felt like entering a real-life episode of Shaun the Sheep. The buildings are meticulously designed to mirror the show’s claymation style, complete with life-sized replicas of the farmhouse and sheep barn. The surrounding flower gardens add a burst of color, making it feel more like a boutique theme park than a traditional farm. Despite its Golden week during our tour, there’s no crowd, maybe because of the rain too.
🐏 Clean and Pleasant
Contrary to what one might expect, the presence of real sheep is minimal, which means the area remains clean and free from strong odors. It’s perfect for those who want the farm experience without the typical farm smells.
🎟️ Visitor Tips
• Booking: It’s advisable to book tickets online in advance, especially during weekends and holidays, to ensure entry.

• Operating Hours: The garden is generally open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but hours can vary by season. Always check the official website before your visit. Expect a min. of 2hours to tour this place, it’s actually huge and many great angles to take IG-worthy shots!

If you’re not driving, the garden is about a 15-minute taxi ride from Maibara Station on the JR Hokuriku Line.
🍽️ Dining and Shopping
Don’t miss out on the themed cafes and shops. The Café EASY TIME offers delightful treats, and the gift shop is stocked with exclusive Shaun the Sheep merchandise.
