It is one of the most important reservoirs in northern Taiwan. Completed in 1964, its primary functions include irrigation, flood control, water supply, and power generation, while also serving as a popular tourist and recreational destination.
The reservoir features a lakeside road that is perfect for driving or cycling, offering stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains, reminiscent of European lakeside scenery. The Maple Forest Trail within the park boasts over 3,000 green maple trees, making it a popular spot for viewing red maple leaves every autumn.
