I was tired from cycling around Teshima, so I took a break. I had a cafe at the Seaside Restaurant. This restaurant is located along the coast and has a great view. The pizza is apparently delicious, so they brought it to me fresh from the handmade oven. Yokoo Tadanori also has art works on display in Teshima. I had some time before the return boat from Ieura Port, so I went in. In the previous Yokoo World, he incorporated primary colors into the old houses as much as he could. I took a ferry to Teshima in Kagawa Prefecture. It took about 40 minutes from Takamatsu Port to reach Ieura Port. It can also be accessed from the opposite shore, Okayama Prefecture. A local told me about it in the morning, so I rented a bicycle and went to Teshima Espoir Park for a morning cafe. It just opened last year. You can take a ferry to access to this one of the most beautiful islands around Kagawa. It is pretty small to explore but feels so good for just relaxing and spending time with great nature. About transportation, unfortunately there are not so many buses however, you can rent a car or even bikes that is enough for exploring all around the island.

In May 2025, we had the chance to visit the art islands in Japan during the Setouchi Triennale, a contemporary art festival held every three years across various islands in the Seto Inland Sea. The main islands we explored were Naoshima and Teshima, both home to fascinating museums. We started our journey at Uno Port, where ferries are available to both islands. We spent one day on each island, but if you have more time, we recommend dedicating two days to Naoshima and one day to Teshima. Naoshima has an abundance of intriguing art installations that are impossible to fully appreciate in just one day. For museum visits, it’s best to book tickets in advance from your home country. As for outdoor art installations, you can simply walk around and enjoy them. 📷

#summervacay Okay, Teshima Art Museum in Kagawa is honestly unlike anything I’ve ever been to. It’s not your typical museum with paintings or sculptures, it's literally just this massive white, dome-like space in the middle of nature. Super minimal, super quiet, and weirdly emotional in the best way. Inside, there's pretty much nothing... except water slowly moving across the floor in the gentlest, most hypnotic way ever. Sounds kinda boring? Nope. It’s insanely calming and weirdly beautiful. You just sit there barefoot, watching water do its thing, while light and wind flow in through these open holes in the ceiling. Time seriously feels like it stops. The whole island has an artsy, peaceful vibe, but the museum is the real soul-hitter. It's more like an experience than a museum. No photos allowed inside, which somehow makes it feel even more special. If you’re into slow, deep, quiet beauty, this one’s gonna hit you right in the feels. Total must-visit.

My first visit to Shodoshima. I stayed at Tenku Hotel Kairo! This time, I stayed in a charming room that was renovated in 2023. The room itself was adorable and totally my style! It was an ocean-view room where you can relax on the sofa or chairs by the window. At the lounge, you can enjoy free soft drinks, alcohol, and ice cream 🍷. The view from the lounge is also spectacular! Later, Kobo Daishi revived it as a temple of the Shingon sect, and became a sacred place in eighty-eight places in Shikoku. Even today, the sound of the pilgrimage's bell is constant. It is said that the author of the Tosa Diary, Noriyuki, stayed for 4 years as a national governor. In addition, the temple has been maintained to this day while receiving strong faith, such as the Chosokabe clan in the Sengoku period and the lord of the Yamauchi Domain in the Edo period.
