Registan Square in Samarkand: A must-see guide to the top 3 attractions for a day trip
As one of the world's most famous ancient cities, Samarkand is as old as Rome, Athens, and Babylon, and is referred to as the "Pearl of the East" in ancient Arabic literature. At the center of Samarkand is Registan Square, which is home to three famous madrasahs.
👣 They are: Ulugh Beg Madrasah, Sher-Dor Madrasah, and Tilya-Kori Madrasah. Today, we bring you a guide to these three must-see attractions, perfect for a day trip 👇🏻
1️⃣ Ulugh Beg Madrasah
Ulugh Beg Madrasah is one of the oldest surviving madrasahs in Central Asia. Its architectural structure became the template for the construction of madrasahs in the Uzbekistan region. Inside the madrasah, there are two iwans, which were used for lectures in the past. The domes above the iwans have a honeycomb structure and are covered with patterns.
2️⃣ Sher-Dor Madrasah
Built in 1619, it is modeled after Ulugh Beg Madrasah, but is smaller in size. Inside, you can find women dressed in traditional costumes taking beautiful photos.
3️⃣ Tilya-Kori Madrasah
This madrasah is the youngest and smallest of the three madrasahs, and its unique feature is the mosque inside. The dome of the mosque is decorated with gold leaf patterns, making it one of the most beautiful dome decorations in Central Asia.
💰 Tickets:
The three attractions make up Registan Square, and the ticket price is 65,000 UZS per person.
❤️ Tips:
The buildings inside the attractions are quite beautiful, but there are many small vendors inside now. The shop selling fridge magnets inside the mosque is worth a visit, but the others are not worth considering.
