💞Reasons for recommendation: About Yatsu-higata
Yatsu-higata is a 40-hectare tidal flat remaining at the innermost part of Tokyo Bay. Many creatures, including water birds, worms, fish, crabs, and plankton, live according to the ebb and flow of the tides, and it is a nationally designated bird and animal protection area. In particular, for shorebirds that migrate between northern countries such as Siberia and Alaska and southern countries such as Southeast Asia and Australia, the area plays an important role as a stopover point for nutrition and rest during migration, and on June 10, 1993, it was the first tidal flat in Japan to be designated as a Ramsar site. In 1996, the area also participated in the East Asia-Australia Flyway Partnership, which aims to conserve waterbirds.
You can encounter many wild birds throughout the four seasons, including summer birds that migrate to raise their young, winter birds that migrate to spend the winter, and migratory birds that stop off during their spring and autumn migrations. Over 110 species of wild birds are spotted around the Yatsu tidal flats throughout the year, of which about 70 are water birds.
The area around the tidal flats is a "natural ecological observation park" that includes a 3.5-kilometer promenade, shelters to protect from the rain and sun, and an observation deck overlooking the tidal flats. You can enjoy not only observing waterfowl, crabs, and fish, but also the changing scenery caused by the tides.
At the Yatsu Tidal Flats Nature Observation Center on the south side of the tidal flats, rangers who are familiar with the nature of the Yatsu Tidal Flats will guide you through the observation, so anyone can enjoy the nature of the Yatsu Tidal Flats. 』
