Wat Chedi Yot, an ancient temple from the Lanna Kingdom era
#Flying with trip
🙏Wat Chet Yot, a third-class royal temple of the common type, is assumed to have been built during the Lanna Kingdom or before King Mangrai established Chiang Rai. It was later abandoned due to the Burmese invasion.
🏕Later, during the reign of King Rama III in 1843, King Mahotaprasat, the King of Chiang Mai, led villagers living in Chiang Mai, Lamphun, and Lampang to clear the forest to find new places to make a living in Chiang Rai.
🏕Phra Khru Ba Khantha Khanthawaso, a monk who traveled with the villagers, invited them to join in renovating this ancient temple to become the village temple.
🧱While clearing the area, they found the remains of an old temple, with a wall, a temple base, a pagoda base, and a base (earth nail) that appeared as 7 chedis, both large and small, in a dilapidated state.
🛕Therefore, the chedi was renovated based on the Maha Photharam Temple (Wat Chet Yot, Chiang Mai), but it was smaller and did not contain any other chedis or relics. And named Wat Chet Yot according to the remains of the original 7 chedis
🛕 The reason for building more than 1 chedi is assumed to come from the value of Lanna Buddhists in building pagodas to be a symbol of the Buddha's principles, which mean the 7 noble treasures and the 7 factors of enlightenment.
Other important things in the temple include:
🏰 Ubosot, inside enshrines a Buddha statue, made of brick and mortar, covered in gold, in the Mara-Vijaya posture, native Lanna art, built in 1927 at the same time as the construction of the chedi.
🖼 The ceiling in front of the chedi has beautiful paintings.
🙏 The brass Buddha statue, in the Mara-Drown posture, flame-shaped headdress, high base, has been at the temple since which era? No one knows what Buddhist era. It may have been at this temple before Khru Ba Khantha came to renovate the temple.
💥 In 2565, lightning struck the Chet Yot chedi. As a result, the white concrete surface on the outside of the 1st-5th floors of the pagoda has cracked, revealing the bricks inside, but the structure was not damaged in any way. 🏰Wat Chet Yot received the royal charter of the boundary markers in 1938, held the boundary marker ceremony in 1944, and was granted the status of a royal temple in 1978.
