Yusentei Park, a Japanese garden located in Fukuoka City Built in 1754, this park was constructed on the site of the residence of Kuroda Tsugutaka. It features a tea house and a large pond! This is a wonderful Japanese garden where you can enjoy the beauty of nature throughout the seasons. With a tea house available, you can savor matcha while gazing at the large pond 🍵. The pond is home to many koi fish 🐟. Relaxing on the veranda inside the building while admiring the pond and scenery is truly calming and refreshing! A week in Fukuoka was filled with leisurely strolls through various Japanese gardens. 🍵 One of my favorite moments during this trip was the afternoon spent at Yorozu Tea Room in Fukuoka, where all five senses were delighted. The tea master’s pairing of tea, sweets, and utensils perfectly embodied the beauty of wabi-sabi. (Reservations can be made by phone 24 hours in advance, and staff can communicate in Chinese.) 🌳 Drinking matcha and feeding koi fish at Yusentei is an experience not to be missed, while the Japanese garden in Ohori Park is somewhat conventional. If you’re visiting the museum to see Kusama’s pumpkin, it’s worth stopping by. 🌊 During your week in Fukuoka, consider staying on Itoshima Island for two to three nights. The vibe is reminiscent of a Japanese version of Malibu, where you might encounter young surfers. Don’t miss the oyster huts on the island; the oysters are sweet and the atmosphere is lively and fun. Stay in a room with a sea view where you can wake up to the ocean and cook your own wagyu ramen for breakfast in the kitchen. (For those who aren’t solely focused on taking photos, it’s highly recommended to avoid the Itoshima Seafood Hall. It’s a restaurant entirely centered around social media appeal, with quality so poor it’s hard to believe it’s located in a seaside city in Japan.)

#FukuokaItinerary Day 1: Stroll through the historic gardens Early in the morning, I came to Yusentei Park in Fukuoka. This garden built in the Edo period is quiet and elegant. After entering the park, walk along the gravel path and a Japanese-style painting will unfold before your eyes: moss-covered stone lanterns, flowing water under a small bridge, and koi swimming leisurely in the pond. All the scenery exudes a quaint charm. Sitting in the tea house and sipping tea, you can see the changing natural scenery of the four seasons, as if time has been frozen in a peaceful moment. In the afternoon, accompanied by the breeze, I participated in a tea ceremony experience course, learning how to greet a bowl of matcha with a calm mind and feel the profound artistic conception of traditional culture. Day 2: Dialogue between Art and Nature The next day, I chose to return to Youquan Pavilion to savor a different perspective. The morning sun shines on the surface of the pond, the water shimmers, and the sound of birds singing complements the garden scenery. I read quietly in the academy in the garden, feeling the leisurely life of ancient literati. In the afternoon, we walked through the alleys surrounding the park, explored local craft shops, and bought some hand-painted ceramics as a wonderful souvenir of the trip. This two-day trip was like a spiritual practice, where I found a moment of peace in the hustle and bustle of daily life. The tranquil atmosphere of Yousen-tei brought a perfect end to my trip to Fukuoka.

Visitors can enjoy different beautiful sceneries throughout the seasons, full of Japanese charm. In autumn, it is also famous as a spot for viewing autumn leaves, making it an excellent photography location. The main hall faces the pond and is characterized by a strict 'Shoin-zukuri' architectural style, with an area of about 32㎡, making it very spacious. Inside the hall, you can not only enjoy the beautiful scenery but also savor seasonal Japanese sweets and matcha sets, fully enjoying a leisurely Japanese atmosphere.
