The mountains didn’t look like mountains, and the water didn’t resemble water—it seemed more like a half-hearted effort by a struggling artist. Yet, guests hurried past without a second glance. At dawn, with the sky just beginning to brighten, I decided to visit Zhuque Mountain. The receptionist, yawning and with puffy eyes, barely raised an eyebrow when I mentioned my destination. She handed me a blurry map with a hint of impatience. "Not far, just take a cab," she said, her tone laced with indifference. Stepping out of the hotel, I was greeted by a cold wind. Mornings in Jilin are always like this—bitingly cold with a touch of moisture. The streets were sparsely populated, with the occasional car passing by, its tires making a soft "shhh" sound on the damp road. The taxi driver, a silent middle-aged man, simply nodded when I told him I was heading to Zhuque Mountain. As the car moved through the city, the view outside the window gradually shifted from buildings to trees. A mist began to envelop the surroundings, and the distant mountains appeared faint and indistinct, like an unfinished ink painting. "This fog..." I couldn’t help but comment. "Happens often," the driver replied curtly, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. After about forty minutes, we arrived at the foot of the mountain. The route I took started from Xi'an, then went to the Qinling Service Area via the expressway. I parked my car in the service area. Behind the service building is a road, which is the starting point for hiking to the east ridge of the Qinling Mountains. If you have enough time, you can hike for a day or a section. The road is basically along a stream. The service area has food and drinks, and it seems that you can stay there. Next to the service area, there is a five-star farmhouse featuring fish. After hiking, you can cross the service area to the opposite service area, return to the Zhuque exit, and enter Hucai Road. The first section of Hucai Road leads directly to Zhuque National Forest Park. On one side is a babbling stream, and on the other side are red leaves and various styles of homestays. The scenery along the way is beautiful. At the entrance of Zhuque National Forest Park, pass through the gate of the protection station on the right side of the road. There are very few residential areas and farmhouses along the way, and a health center is taking shape. At the end of Hucai Road is a T-junction. Jilin City's Zhuque Mountain is suitable for family trips. The weather is really great. Because of the May Day holiday, there are a lot of people. The higher you go, the steeper the mountain road becomes, so we had to stop and go. In many places, only one person can pass at a time, using both hands and feet. The view from the mountain top is beautiful and the trip is worthwhile. Descending the mountain is generally faster, but it's quite tiring on the legs; my legs were shaking so much that I couldn't focus my phone camera for photos. We chose to hike up the mountain, but there is also another route where you can take a sightseeing car up to Dongshan, which costs 50 yuan. The two routes are completely different. The 'Little Waist' at the top of Dongshan is a beautiful spot for photos, and I definitely want to try the sightseeing car route in the future. There are many facilities for children to play with at the foot of the mountain, and the night light show is also very good, especially suitable for family trips. We prepared food and drinks in advance, found a place in the scenic area to have a picnic, and left the unfinished food at a nearby water-selling cabin. The owner was very nice and allowed us to store our things for free, so we could go up the mountain with less to carry. It's hot weather, so bring plenty of water. There is only one place to buy water near the top of the mountain, at 6 yuan per bottle, which is okay. Overall, recommended!

The entrance fee for Suzaku Mountain is 30 RMB per person, and the sightseeing car is 50 RMB per person for a round trip. Here's a key point: the mountain you climb on your own and the mountain top you reach by car are not the same. I recommend taking the car. I consider myself to be in good physical condition, but this mountain is really steep. After climbing for a while, I couldn't handle it anymore. The air in the mountain is good, the temperature is comfortable, and it's very cool. There are a lot of small flying insects in the mountain, so it's advised to wear long sleeves and pants. Definitely do a good job with sun protection. You can go there and back in the same day, and the price is reasonable, so those who are considering it can go. It's best to bring your own food as the restrooms on the mountain don't have water, so bring more wet wipes. It's not recommended for very young children to come as there are snakes in the mountains. Be careful when climbing, but overall, once you reach the top of the mountain, you'll have a panoramic view of the vast landscape. At that moment, you'll feel it was worth it.
