2025 Theth Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in July)

Theth is the village at the centre of the Albania Alps, it is the perfect place to base yourself for a few days to explore the area. The best thing to do in Theth is hiking, there isn’t much to do in the town, so just keep this in mind if you plan on visiting. The village area is beautiful, stunning views of the Albanian Alps and gushing rivers abound. As well as viewing the church and lock in tower in Theth village we did a couple of excellent hikes to The Blue Eye, Grunasi waterfall and Canyon of Grunas which is spectacular. How to get to Theth from Shkoder: To get to Theth from Shkoder you will need to book a minivan. This minivan only leaves once a day at 7am, so it’s important to book it. There are multiple companies, but spots are limited. You can do this at your accommodation, or you can go to the bus station in Shkoder and try your luck for a bus with availability. It’s recommended to arrive around 6.30am to catch the 7am bus.

It takes about 2 hours by minivan from Shkoder, the base for sightseeing in Teth, to reach Teth Village. This village is surrounded by the Alps, offering a natural environment. That said, there is wi-fi available in hotels, so the communication environment is fine. Hotels start from 40 euros per night, but the cheaper ones fill up quickly, so it's best to book early. Theth in Albania is a great place to visit surrounded by tall mountains with bare peaks due to the winter snow which makes it a perfect place for those who love hiking, fresh air, and fresh food. Theth not only offers a great nature and stunning views of Northern Albania, however, it has a rich history regarding Albania and its traditional, especially the Lock-in Tower which today amazes tourists with the symbolism and and meaning it shares from the blood-revenge phenomenon point of view. This place kept alive many of those who took someone’s life lead by Albanian wise-elderly men to interfere in peace-making among the families involved in the blood-revenge phenomenon. Here the walls, including this building with the traditional Albania crib speak confess how hard it was for people to forgive and keep that promise of peace. Another amazing place to see is the church which once had been burnt, rebuilt again and has resisted many collisions including communism which shut down every church and mosque in Albania. Theth is a stunning place with amazing flora and fauna, an incredible landscape lead by the water, waterfalls and traditional families still living there. This place is like a fairy tale which people can experience and feel its beauty, take it along with them, and share it with family and friends.
