Sky High Views at Fuente Dé
#summervacay Fuente Dé is one of those places that makes you feel tiny in the best way. It’s right in the heart of the Picos de Europa and the big highlight here is the cable car that takes you all the way up into the mountains in just a few minutes. The ride itself is already a thrill, but once you’re at the top, the views are absolutely insane.
You’re surrounded by these rocky peaks, valleys way down below, and clouds just casually floating around you. It feels like you’re on top of the world. There are a bunch of trails up there, from chill walks to proper hikes if you’re feeling adventurous. Even just wandering around a bit gives you that fresh mountain air and epic scenery combo.
Back at the base, there’s a little spot to grab food or coffee, and the vibe is super relaxed. Whether you’re into hiking or just soaking up views, Fuente Dé totally delivers. Cantabria at its most dramatic.

Time Travel Vibes in Mogrovejo
#summervacay Mogrovejo is one of those little villages that feels like it’s stuck in time, in the best way possible. Tucked into the Picos de Europa area, it’s got cobbled streets, stone houses with wooden balconies, and this peaceful, mountain backdrop that just makes you wanna slow down and breathe it all in.
The whole place is super walkable, and you can just wander around without a map, discovering cute corners, old barns, and maybe a sleepy cat sunbathing. There's even a medieval tower that adds a little extra character to the already picture-perfect scene.
It’s not packed with tourists, which makes it feel kind of magical, like a quiet escape from the real world. The views are insane too. Just standing at the edge of the village and looking out at the mountains is enough to make your day.
Bring some snacks, chill out on a bench, and soak up the slow pace. Mogrovejo is tiny, but it leaves a big impression.

Wild Waves and Rock Magic at Urros de Liencres
Urros de Liencres is hands down one of the most incredible coastal spots I’ve ever stumbled upon. The place is dominated by massive, jagged rock formations that rise dramatically from the sea, resembling a natural sculpture garden. The waves crash against them with such intensity that you’ll find yourself constantly in awe, muttering “whoa” every few seconds.
Getting there is a breeze—just a short, easy trail through open grassy fields with uninterrupted ocean views along the way. No need for hiking boots; just wear comfortable shoes and have your camera ready. The wind can get pretty fierce up there, so even on sunny days, a jacket is a good idea.
What’s even better is that it’s not crowded, giving it a special, almost secretive vibe, like you’ve discovered your own private lookout. It’s the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and watch the waves put on a show. If you’re traveling through Cantabria, make sure to stop by for this mini coastal adventure. It’s simple, breathtaking, and absolutely worth it.

Colorful Cliffs and Ocean Feels at Faro de Ajo
#summervacay Faro de Ajo is one of those spots that’s super easy to get to but still feels kinda epic. The lighthouse itself is painted in bright colors, which makes it pop like crazy against the deep blues of the sea and sky. It’s not your typical old-school lighthouse vibe, this one’s modern and artsy, and honestly, pretty Instagrammable.
The walk there is chill, with wide open views of the coastline and green fields stretching out on both sides. There’s this fresh sea breeze hitting you the whole way, and it just feels good to be out there. No big hike or anything, just a slow stroll with endless photo ops.
Once you're at the edge, the cliffs are dramatic and wild, and you can just sit and stare at the waves crashing for as long as you want. It’s peaceful but also kinda powerful. Perfect little detour if you're road-tripping around Cantabria and want a breath of fresh sea air.

Hidden Beach Vibes at Playa de Arenal de Sonabia
#summervacay This little adventure to Playa de Arenal de Sonabia is such a vibe. The hike is short and sweet, starting from the tiny village of Sonabia, and the trail takes you through some grassy cliffs with views that are just unreal. The air smells like salt and wildflowers, and there are cows casually hanging out near the path like it’s no big deal.
Once you get to the beach, it feels like you’ve found a secret spot. It’s not huge or crowded, and the water is super clear. Waves were just the right size for a splash, and the sand was soft enough to crash out on. There’s also this epic rock formation called El Piloto nearby that’s cool to check out if you're into little side quests.
No shops or cafés around, so bring whatever you need. It’s the perfect mix of light hiking, chill beach time, and stunning views. Totally worth it for a relaxing nature day.

Up in the Clouds at Fuente Dé
#summervacay Fuente Dé was straight up epic. It’s tucked in the Picos de Europa mountains, and the main event is definitely the cable car ride, it shoots you almost vertically up the cliffside and lands you at this insane viewpoint surrounded by towering peaks. Seriously, it felt like we were floating above the world.
Once you’re at the top, it’s just mountains everywhere. You can wander around the trails, snap a million pics, or just sit and take in the pure mountain magic. We went on a partly cloudy day and the clouds were literally rolling through us, felt like something out of a movie.
There are a few hiking routes up there if you’re feeling adventurous, but you can also just hang near the top station and still get the full experience. Don’t forget a jacket, it’s way cooler up high!
Honestly, Fuente Dé is one of those places that makes you feel tiny in the best way. Nature showing off, big time. Loved every second.

Marques de Riscal Elciego
Marques de Riscal Elciego
It has always been a leading model company in the wine industry and in 1858 became the first winery in the Rioja region to use the Bordeaux method to make wine. In 1972, she was the first driving force behind the creation of the famous wine region of Rueda, where Marquês de Riscal’s world-famous white wine is produced.
The development of Bodegas Marquês de Riscal is closely linked to that of Don Camilo Hurtado de Amezaga. The Marquis of Amesa Carrigal was the original owner of the Torrea Estate vineyards and winery in Elciego. He was a man who held many titles, including diplomat, journalist, and free thinker. He became a citizen of Bordeaux, France in 1836. In 1858, the Marquis of Amesacarriguel was commissioned by the Diputacion Foral de Alava to hire a French oenologist to teach the locals how to make wine using Medoc techniques. The Marquis collaborated with Jean Pineau, director of Chateau Lanessan, and signed a technical contract with him on behalf of the provincial government to help the wineries in the province of Álava. In the same year, Marquis de Riscal sent 9,000 excellent vines to Rioja, where the dominant varieties at the time were still Tempranillo and Graciano.
