The Empire Cafe

This is a good place to eat western food, salads, etc. It is one of the few reasonably priced western restaurants in Kandy. The juice and smoothies taste great, but the fish and chips are a bit strange, probably because they are made of tuna. The whole atmosphere here is good, the staff are very good, and the atmosphere is great. I want to share an interesting thing. One of the things that impressed me most during my days in Kandy was sitting on the balcony and watching those kiosks selling things like people paying tribute to the Temple of the Tooth Relic. I always felt like an outsider looking down, and there was a different feeling...

We just had dinner here, it was ok, but not as good as the guides said! We both ordered chicken burgers, which tasted ok, a little bland, and with two sodas we spent 2200 rupees for the meal. This is really expensive, in Sri Lanka where prices are so low, you can eat a lot of delicious food for half the price!! I think the advantage here is that it is close to the temple, there is no way around the tourist attractions!!

We ate at this restaurant when we were in Sri Lanka. We ordered B.L.A.T, pineapple mint, coconut juice, and classic iced tea. B.L.A.T is bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato juice. I remember it was served with fries. The fries were a bit weird, but they tasted OK. The three dishes cost 1,300 rupees, which is not expensive. The food tasted good, and the other juices were good, but far from amazing. And I picked out the bacon when I ate it because it didn't taste or look like bacon.

The location is very good, right next to the Temple of the Tooth Relic, on a busy street. The juice and desserts are delicious. I recommend it~
