Assy Plateau Trekking – Experience True Nature in Almaty

If you want to feel the 'nature loved by locals' during your trip to Almaty, **Assy Plateau** is the perfect choice. Located at an altitude of over 2,800 meters, this vast grassland with the snowy peaks of the Tian Shan Mountains in the background offers a scenery you can never encounter in the city. It takes about two and a half hours by car from Almaty city center, and due to the many off-road sections along the way, a 4WD vehicle is essential. The moment you arrive, you'll feel your breath taken away. Around you, yurts (nomadic tents) and freely grazing horses and sheep create a serene atmosphere that feels like time has stopped. Trekking options range from easy courses along the river to challenging routes that climb winding hills and reach the ridges. We chose a round-trip trekking course that took about an hour and a half, walking along wildflowers and clear streams. On clear days, the plateau is also famous as a stargazing spot where you can see the Milky Way vividly. Despite being a high-altitude area, the warm sunshine and cool breeze in summer make it perfect for walking. However, the wind can be strong, so be sure to bring a windbreaker and warm clothing. Assy Plateau is a place where you can encounter 'pure nature' without any commercial feel. It’s the ideal spot to clear your mind and find peace.
