Batu Caves

If you're visiting Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves is a must-see destination. As one of the sacred sites of Hinduism, it attracts many Hindu pilgrims. We took a Grab ride from our hotel to Batu Caves, but as we approached, the traffic was so heavy that we decided to get out and walk the rest of the way. If you're planning to drive all the way to Batu Caves, think again—getting out and walking part of the way is much faster. At Batu Caves, you'll encounter plenty of monkeys. Bananas, which are their favorite food, are sold at the base of the caves. I bought some bananas for fun, but they were snatched away almost immediately. The monkeys are not afraid of people at all, so be cautious with your belongings. I saw many instances of monkeys grabbing items like water bottles or snacks right out of people's hands. The stairs at Batu Caves are quite numerous, and each step holds a special meaning. They symbolize the sins humans commit in life, and climbing them one by one is meant to encourage reflection and self-examination. Knowing the story behind the stairs makes the climb feel more meaningful. Even after you reach the top of Batu Caves, there are more stairs to climb. However, these are smaller and easier to manage compared to the main staircase. One fascinating thing is that monkeys live even on the cliffs here—it's amazing to see how they survive.
