Sayram Lake

Sayram Lake, located in the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, China, is the highest-altitude (approximately 2,070 m) and largest (approximately 453–458 km²) alpine lake in Xinjiang. It is also a national AAAA-level scenic area and a must-visit spot along the northern route of the ancient Silk Road. The lake's water is sourced from glacial melt, precipitation, and underground springs, with a transparency of 10–12 m. Its color ranges from light blue to sapphire blue and deep blue, earning it the nickname "The Last Tear of the Atlantic." 🏞 🗓 Recommended Visiting Times • Best Travel Period: May to October, especially June–July when flowers bloom like a sea (nights can still be chilly, so bring warm clothing). • Autumn: September–October, when the grasslands turn golden and the weather is pleasant. • Winter: Explore the frozen lake surface, admire ice bubbles and powder-blue ice scenery, but ensure you have proper cold-weather gear and safety equipment.
