The open ocean, a walk on the sandy beach, and even a plate of grilled clams in front of the ocean at night. In a word, it was a day that was “healing itself.” ⸻ 🚗 Excited from the start I left Seoul early in the morning. It takes about 2 and a half hours by car, but I arrived quickly because I took a quick break at a rest stop along the way. You all know that excitement when you pass the Boryeong IC and the ocean starts to come into view, right?ㅎㅎ ⸻ 🏖 Daecheon Beach – A Quiet Weekday Beach Walk Daecheon Beach is really wide. There are a lot of people during the peak summer season, but it’s more relaxed and quiet than you think on weekdays, so it’s perfect for a walk. The sand is soft, and the waves are calm, so it was great to take off my slippers and walk barefoot. Sitting in front of the sea, just dazed, listening to the sound of the waves, I felt like all the fatigue that had built up was melting away. ⸻ 🧋 Take a short break at a nearby cafe There are a lot of sentimental cafes around the sea these days, so I went to a cafe with a nice view on the second floor terrace and had an iced latte. Outside the window, there's the blue sea, inside, there's cool air conditioning... This is a real vacation 😌 ⸻ ⛱ Experience the Mud Square & Sky Bike When you think of Daecheon, it's also famous for the Boryeong Mud Festival! It wasn't the festival season, but I looked around the Mud Square and took a short ride on the Sky Bike that follows the rails nearby. It's surprisingly fun to move slowly along the quiet scenery, and it's great for taking pictures 📸 ⸻ 🍽 The highlight is definitely the grilled clams For dinner, I went to a grilled clam restaurant right in front of the beach. As soon as you sit down, the grill is filled with cockles, scallops, lilies, abalone, conch, and shrimp! And the basic side dishes, including cheese corn, butter, kimchi, and seaweed soup, are a real hit. The staff grills it once, and then we turn it over ourselves and grill it, so it's on a whole other level than just eating seafood. The clams are sizzling on the grill while looking at the ocean... This is why you come to the beach for this taste🔥 We finished off with seafood ramen to fill up our stomachs. The clam broth was rich and the soup was really the best! ⸻ 🌙 Finishing off with a walk along the night sea I felt bad about going back to my accommodation right after eating grilled clams, so I walked along the beach one more time. The night sea with twinkling lights, the sound of the waves, and the gentle breeze were the perfect ending to the day.
