This monument is made up of 60 pairs of iron shoes lined up along the east bank of the Danube. It was created in 2005 and erected to commemorate the tragedy that occurred here during World War II. The victims of the Hungarian Arrow Cross Party, who shot about 3,500 Budapest citizens on the banks of the Danube, were ordered to take off their shoes just before being shot. At the time, shoes were expensive, so the executioners later sold them, and this monument was created to prevent the tragedy from being repeated. Even now, many people visit this place and pray.
