Visiting Buda Castle was like stepping into a real-life fairytale. As a girl who loves architecture, history, and breathtaking views, this experience was everything I hoped for and more. Perched majestically above the Danube River on Castle Hill, Buda Castle offers more than just royal history — it’s an entire cultural complex. Think panoramic views, fascinating museums, charming cobbled paths, and golden-hour moments you’ll never forget. 🕰️ Timings of Buda Castle Buda Castle itself isn’t one single building — it’s home to the Hungarian National Gallery, Budapest History Museum, and Széchényi Library. The courtyard and grounds are open 24/7, which is amazing for anyone who wants to explore at their own pace or take stunning photos without crowds. For indoor visits: Hungarian National Gallery ⏰ Tuesday–Sunday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Closed on Mondays) Budapest History Museum ⏰ Tuesday–Sunday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Closed on Mondays) 💸 Ticket Prices (2025) You don’t need to pay to walk around the castle grounds or enjoy the views — it’s completely free and that was one of the best parts for me! If you want to go inside the museums (which I highly recommend, especially the National Gallery for art lovers): 🎟 Hungarian National Gallery Adults: 3,000 HUF (€7.50) Students/Seniors: 1,500 HUF (€3.75) 🎟 Budapest History Museum Adults: 2,400 HUF (€6) Students/Seniors: 1,200 HUF (€3) There are also combo tickets and free admission days — like every first Saturday of the month for EU citizens. I visited in the late afternoon, and that’s when the magic really happens. The golden light hits the castle walls, the sky begins to blush pink, and the city below starts to sparkle. ✨ 📅 Best Months: April to June or September to early November — fewer crowds and perfect weather. 🌇 Best Time of Day: Late afternoon to sunset for the most Instagram-worthy views. 📷 Don’t miss the Fisherman’s Bastion view from the back terrace of the castle! ♿ Accessibility Notes As a traveler who likes to pay attention to inclusivity: The courtyard and main paths are paved and suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. There are elevators inside the museums and ramps in key areas. You can take the Buda Castle Funicular (yes, it’s adorable!) from Clark Ádám Square — it’s a great option for those who prefer not to climb up. 💡 Other Things to Know There are cute cafés and gelato spots nearby — I treated myself to a lavender gelato and sat on a bench watching boats glide along the Danube.
