This unique hiking trail, recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2020, offers an incredibly scenic and manageable experience perfect for families or beginner hikers. The trail spans 3.6 km along the Hantangang River, allowing you to marvel at unique volcanic basalt columnar joint formations. It's designed for leisurely exploration, with plenty of rest areas and observation decks along the way. My group, including a 65-year-old and a 4.5-year-old, completed the entire route in just 1.5 hours, and no one complained about being tired! After finishing, we simply hopped on a free shuttle bus back to our starting point at the parking lot. Planning Your Visit: Location: Cheorwon Hantangang Columnar Joint Road (access via Deureunim ticket office or Sundam ticket office) Operating Hours: Open from March to November, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Closed: Every Tuesday, New Year's Day, Lunar New Year's Day, and Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). Free Shuttle Bus: On weekends and public holidays, free shuttle buses run between the two ticket offices. This means you can choose to walk one way and take the bus back to your starting point, or do a round trip on foot.
