Phra That Chom Sak Temple

Wat Phra That Chom Sak (formerly known as Phra That Doi Ban Yang) is one of the nine sacred chedis located in Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province. It was built during the Yonok Chai Buri Sri Chiang Saen period until the reign of King Pangkharat, the 24th king of the Yonok Dynasty. A monk from Kosala, Suthammawadi, named Phra Phutthakhosachan, brought 16 sacred relics from Sri Lanka to present to him. King Pangkharat ordered the chedi to be divided into three parts: one part was enshrined at Phra That Doi Chom Thong, the second part was enshrined at Phra That Chom Kitti, and the third part was enshrined at Phra That Doi Ban Yang. Later, in 1947, Phra Khru Ba Kham La Sangvaro presided over the renovation of the new chedi by building a cover over the original chedi and building a boat chapel on a stilt foundation.
