A Hidden Gem in Daegu — Calm Days at Kim Gwangseok Street

I didn’t expect much when I visited Kim Gwangseok Street, but it ended up being one of my favourite quiet spots in Daegu. It’s tucked away from the main roads, and the moment you step in, there’s music playing softly from speakers and colourful murals lining the alley. The whole place feels calm and a little nostalgic. This mural street was created to honour the late singer Kim Gwangseok, one of Korea’s most beloved folk musicians. He grew up in Daegu, and his songs are still loved today for their emotional lyrics and honest storytelling. The walls here are filled with portraits, lyrics, and tributes to his life and music — it’s like a small open-air museum. 🖼️ Each corner tells a story. If you take your time, you’ll notice that the murals aren’t just for photos. Some of them shift in the light, and you might spot handwritten lyrics or doodles hidden between the art. It’s like walking through someone’s memories. ☕ I found a small café nearby with outdoor seating. It wasn’t crowded, which made it the perfect spot to sit with a hot drink and just watch people go by. Around sunset, buskers started setting up, and the whole street turned golden. It felt like a movie scene. 📍 To get there, take Line 2 to Kyungpook National University Hospital Station and head out from Exit 3.
