If you’re craving a peaceful escape, Juknokwon (죽녹원) in Damyang is the kind of place that instantly slows you down. First, we had to figure out how to get to Gwangju Station — and with time ticking, we decided to skip the 1-hour wait for the train that wasn’t very frequent and just took a cab instead. Faster, easier, and saved us some stress. Then came the challenge of finding the right bus stop to Damyang. Thankfully, a kind Chinese-speaking ajumma came to our rescue and pointed us in the right direction to take the bus. Despite the hassle, the moment we stepped into Juknokwon’s bamboo forest, all the effort felt worth it. Tall, swaying bamboo, peaceful walking trails, and the sound of rustling leaves — it was absolutely serene.
