Daereungwon: Strolling Through Ancient Tombs and Savoring the Essence of the Silla Dynasty

When visiting Gyeongju, one must not miss Daereungwon (대릉원), a serene ancient tomb park of the Silla royal family. With its lush greenery and tranquil atmosphere, it feels like a historical garden frozen in time. The park is home to over twenty grass-covered mounds, resembling small green hills from afar. Walking along the pathways, one gets a sense of conversing with the ancients. The most famous tomb here is Cheonmachong, which is open for visitors. Inside, you can marvel at the artifacts unearthed from the tomb, including gold crowns, horse gear, and pottery, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of ancient times. Daereungwon offers different scenic charms throughout the year. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom; in autumn, the fiery red maples captivate photographers. During my summer visit, the shade of the green trees and the gentle breeze made the experience especially pleasant. Strolling through the park, you can enjoy both the natural beauty and the profound sense of history, making it a must-visit spot in Gyeongju to slow down and savor.
