Tonkatsu Tonkatsu is a specialty store for Ise's Kuroge Wagyu beef, with three locations: one near the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu, one near the Outer Shrine, and the main store in the city center. Each store offers slightly different menus, and I visited the one near the Inner Shrine at Okage Yokocho. The name 'Tonkatsu' literally translates to 'abandoning pork'? The store's signature item is fried meatballs, which are about the size of a crepe and mostly sold as takeout. I opted for dine-in, where the menu includes beef bowls, beef hot pot, and sukiyaki. I ordered a bowl of Kuroge Wagyu beef rice. The preparation style features a rich, thick sauce. The beef is not particularly tender but has a chewy texture, as it is grilled. Personally, I found the flavor to be a bit on the heavy side.
