Hakusan, which supplies the "water of life" that is essential to life, was also a seat of the gods and a sanctuary for the people at the foot of the mountain. Eventually, the belief in the mountain changed to the style of worshipping, and after the monk Yasusumi opened Hakusan in the year of Yorogen (717), the belief in Hakusan quickly spread throughout the country. The base is Hakusan Hiba Shrine. In the vast 47,000-square-metre precincts, shrines are lined up as if they were embraced by old trees, and there is a solemn atmosphere around the area. After passing through the Omotesando from the first torii, the second torii and the third torii are at the end of the shrine gate.
