During my trip to Kyoto, I made a special stop at a place known for its must-buy dessert souvenirs. This is none other than the popular confectionery shop 'Malebranche,' which has its main store in Kyoto Kitayama. I visited their shop located in the basement of the Isetan department store at Kyoto Station, and I was immediately drawn to the beautifully displayed treats on their neat shelves. Among their offerings, the most famous is 'Cha no Ka (茶の菓).' It's a matcha langue de chat made with rich Uji matcha. The moment you take a bite, your mouth is filled with the subtle aroma of matcha, delivering a refined taste. Between the slightly bitter matcha cookies is a layer of white chocolate with a creamy milk flavor, creating a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. Each piece is elegantly individually wrapped, making it ideal for gifting, and the luxurious packaging adds to its appeal.
