5/30 Jordan Travel Diary｜Go to the ancient city of Jerash, eat in Amman, buy souvenirs 💰🍹🕌 Today we only have one itinerary in the morning, which is to depart from Amman and go to the Jerash archaeological site, which is about 48 kilometers away from the city and about an hour's drive. We set off at 8:45 and arrived at about 10 o'clock. Today, our original driver Hani finally came to pick us up~ Although his car was not repaired yet, he drove another larger car. Although the air conditioning was not very cool, it was very spacious and comfortable! 🎫【Additional attractions】Jerash is one of the most well-preserved ancient Roman city ruins in Jordan. It is known as the "Pompeii of the Middle East" and is also one of the attractions included in the Jordan Pass for free. • ⏰ Opening hours: 8:00–19:30 in summer, 8:00–16:00 in winter (recommended to enter the park before 17:00 at the latest) • 🎟️ Single ticket: 10 JD (free with Jordan Pass) We walked around for about two hours, but the sun in Jordan is really strong☀️It was actually quite tiring after the walk. One of the vendors came over and offered to take photos for us. We wanted to refuse, but he was very good at talking and kept teaching us how to pose. We thought, forget it, at most we could just give him a tip at the end. Sure enough, after taking the photos, he took us to see the stones and accessories he sold, but they were really expensive! We didn't buy anything, so he asked for a tip directly. The four of us gave him 2 JD as a token of respect, but he thought it was too little and kept mumbling, "There are four of you!" 🙄 I immediately said, "If you don't want it, just give it back to me~" I put the money away and left. Then a few minutes later he followed us back and said "Okay, I'll take the 2 JD", I didn't want to give it, so he said you should delete the photos on your phone, it was really annoying... Reminder: When strangers take the initiative to talk to you and ask you to take pictures, please stand firm and don't be too polite! Today's car rental fee is 30 JD. In fact, the driver also said that he could take us to other attractions, but we were really tired, so we went back to Amman Hotel to rest. Lunch was directly at the shawarma shop next to the restaurant. A large portion was only 1.2 JD, grilled meat with garlic sauce and pickles, simple but delicious~ In the afternoon, I originally wanted to go to the Souk Jara Friday market (every Friday 10:00-22:00, near Rainbow Street) that I was looking forward to yesterday, but when I walked to the scene, I found that it was not there! Later, I met a tourist who could speak Arabic and asked the local guards, and then I found out that it was cancelled this week... (Deng Leng) 😭 I had to quietly go to the nearby high-end gift shop Jo Shop, which has a good Google rating. The products in it are all carefully selected and high-quality. There are also good fragrances and clean toilets. Some of the customers in the store look like ladies. Then we walked past the Grand Husseini Mosque 🕌, but today is Friday (Jordan’s weekend is Friday + Saturday), and the mosque is not open. Then we walked along the street and bought souvenirs. I wanted to spend the remaining Jordanian currency on me 😂 and walked to a juice shop Palestine Juice (مرطبات وعصائر فلسطين) with a lot of people. The prices are reasonable: • Small cup 1 JD • Medium cup 1.5 JD • Large cup 2 JD • 1.5 liters is only 3.5-7JD! It depends on what flavor of juice you choose We bought a large cup to try at first, but it was so delicious that we drank it all on the spot, and immediately went back to buy a 1.5L bottle! Recommended~ For dinner, I wanted to have a shawarma competition, so I went to Al Basha Shawarma. They have Iraqi samoon sandwiches, which cost 1.3 JD each, but we thought it was just okay because the bread was too thick, the fillings were too little, and the sauce was not evenly spread, so it tasted ordinary. We went out for a walk and bought souvenirs in the evening. We went to the spice shop next to Carrefour where we visited yesterday. The owner actually remembered us and was very kind. He even treated us to chocolate~ It was just right to buy some desserts, spices, nuts, and chocolates to take back as souvenirs! We also took a photo with the owner❤️ Today's itinerary was simple but fulfilling, because the journey came to the end, and the body was tired. Physical conditioning is also very important. This is the advantage of arranging the itinerary by yourself. If you want to go home for a nap, you can go home. It doesn't matter if you don't finish the itinerary. Anyway, the most important itinerary this time is the ancient city of Petra! However, the ancient Roman ruins in Jerash are really worth seeing, just remember to wear sunscreen☀️ It is very convenient to go shopping in the city, and Uber and taxis are also cheap, about 1.3-2 JD (about NT$60-80). Walking will make you tired!
