A Cool Summer Retreat: Explore the Sacred Trees of Ptlaman

The Ptlaman Giant Tree Trail is located in Jianshi Township, Hsinchu, and is home to the lowest-altitude cypress giant tree cluster in Taiwan. Known as "Ptlaman" by the Atayal people, which means "to give it a try," this area is a traditional hunting ground and considered a sacred domain by the tribe. Within this sacred domain of the Atayal people, there are four massive trees collectively known as the "Ptlaman Sacred Trees." These are the lowest-altitude red cypress giant trees in Taiwan. To allow visitors to admire these majestic trees up close, the Forestry Bureau has constructed the Ptlaman National Trail. Walking along the mountain trail, you can enjoy the sight of planted forests featuring Taiwan incense cedar, Taiwan hinoki, and Taiwania. The ridgeline is home to Taiwan beech trees, which transform into a vibrant display of colors every autumn, attracting hikers year after year without fail!
