Touring the Three Eastern Shrines: Ikusu Shrine!

#AbsolutelyFreeTrip Ikisu Shrine, together with Kashima Shrine (Kashima City) and Katori Shrine (Katori City), are known as the Three Eastern Shrines and have been a place of worship since ancient times. It is said that people from the Kanto region and north would visit these three shrines as a form of purification, known as the "Meguri of the Lower Three Shrines," after visiting Ise Shrine. The reason these three shrines are called the "Three Eastern Shrines" is because of the "Kuniyuzuri" myth, in which the three gods enshrined at each shrine, Takemikazuchi, Futsunushi, and Amenotorifune, were sent from heaven to Amaterasu to urge her to hand over the earth. While both Kashima and Katori Shrines are flashy and large-scale, Ikisu Shrine has a friendly atmosphere as the "guardian deity of the land." #ShrineTour #IbarakiTourism
