The mist had yet to disperse, and elderly locals were practicing Tai Chi and playing the erhu under the shade of trees. Black-headed gulls skimmed across the lake, leaving ripples behind. This place felt less like a tourist attraction and more like an extension of daily life. I sat on a bench, watching the willow branches sway, and ended up sitting for over an hour, simply to savor the "stillness." 🕌 Entering Yunnan University: An unexpected encounter with the past The old campus is adorned with French-style architecture covered in ivy. Students rode bicycles through the grounds, and I felt as though I had stepped into a yellowed diary of campus life. The library was as tranquil as a temple, and sunlight streaming onto the cobblestone paths created the most beautiful interplay of light and shadow during my trip. 🏘 Zhengyi Fang and Nanping Street: The bustling charm of everyday life During the day, these streets are lively shopping areas, but at night, they transform into vibrant night markets and food stalls. A bowl of "Crossing-the-Bridge" rice noodles, a skewer of grilled cheese, or freshly made rose sugar water—all carry the gentle flavors of Yunnan. Locals are unhurried, cooking and chatting leisurely in every shop. That sense of "slowness" allowed me, a traveler from a fast-paced city, to shed my armor of urgency. 🏞 Western Hills and Dianchi Lake: Where the horizon opens up Taking the cable car up Western Hills, I gazed down at Dianchi Lake. In that moment, I understood the meaning of "a city embraced by a lake." The lake was a vivid blue, clouds hung low, and distant mountains resembled ink paintings. The only sound was the wind, while my eyes took in the serene and majestic beauty of Kunming. ⸻ 📝 Final Thoughts Kunming is not a city that dazzles, but it is deeply "healing."
