Matsue Castle, designated as a national treasure Built before the Edo period and still retaining its appearance... One of the remaining castle towers. (12 castles nationwide) It's not flashy, but it is the second largest, third tallest, and fifth oldest of all remaining castle towers. To increase durability, the planks are painted with black lacquer and persimmon tannins to prevent them from rotting in the wind and rain. For this reason, there are few white walls, and it is known for being mostly black overall. The view from the top is also outstanding. The stone walls are impressive.
