Japan's largest Bishamonten statue at Ichijo-in Temple

Founded by the monk Kaihan in 1386, this temple is the 25th of the 36 Fudoson sacred sites in northern Kanto. The main image is Acala, a statue that was the principal image of the 540,000 koku Satake clan. Other statues enshrined here include a seated Yakushi Nyorai statue made in the Muromachi period, which was said to have been given to the temple by Mito Mitsukuni, a standing statue of Prince Shotoku, and a Bishamonten statue said to have been made by the Buddhist sculptor Unkei in the mid-Kamakura period.
