Nan National Museum

The Nan National Museum is the national museum of Nan Province. The original museum building was a hall built by King Suriyapong Phritdet, the King of Nan, as his residence in 1903. It is a two-story brick and mortar building in a three-porch or T-shape, combining Western and Thai styles. The interior structure is made of wood, facing east, with a porch at the front. The roof is covered with shingle wood. When Chao Maha Phrom Surathatha, the last ruler of Nan, passed away, the princes and children of the ruler of Nan did not give this hall and all the land to the government to use as the Nan Provincial Hall in 1932. Later, when the Ministry of Interior built a new provincial hall, the Fine Arts Department requested to receive the hall building to be the location of the Nan National Museum in 1974 and officially announced the establishment of the Nan National Museum in 1985. After the exhibition was completed Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the official opening ceremony of Nan National Museum for the public on August 14, 1987. #thailand #travelthailand #museum #wheretotravel #nan
