From Moulin Rouge to Montmartre – A Nighttime Walking Tour of Paris

As the sun set and the lights came on one by one, the Moulin Rouge greeted the night as the red windmills came on. I stared blankly for a moment at the sight that was much more intense and dazzling than during the day, and then slowly walked away. The alleyway up the hill had a completely different atmosphere than during the day. The lights were low, and warm yellow lights were streaming out of the small windows. It felt like I was peeking outside at someone's quiet daily life. After passing Place Dalida and climbing up the slightly steep road suddenly the view widened and Place du Tertre appeared. Lights twinkled between the small alleyways, and people were still talking over glasses of wine at the outdoor cafes. Live music was playing at some tables, and I met a painter painting with a small brush on the street. The painting contained the night of Paris, and the lights in the painting felt warmer than the real thing. I stood in front of it for a while and looked at it, then bought a small postcard. I wanted to take the emotions I felt in Paris home. #ParisTravel #MontmartreHill
