Shangsong Village is home to the grand Fan Family Courtyard, a traditional residence. According to the Fan family genealogy, the courtyard was built by a local Fan family ancestor, a great scholar. The great scholar lived during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. He was born in a prosperous era and, after decades of hard work, accumulated a substantial fortune, becoming the richest man in the area. He then built the Fan Family Courtyard. In the late Qianlong period, the court began to accept donations for official positions. The great scholar donated money and helped local officials maintain peace in the area, and was awarded the title of Rulin Lang, equivalent to a sixth-rank official. Therefore, the Fan Family Courtyard gate was adorned with a "Lang Official Residence" plaque. His descendants also achieved official titles, and the courtyard was successively adorned with "Praised Five Kui", "Deze Tongzhan", "Fengzhi Dafu" and other plaques. According to statistics, the Fan Family Courtyard still has three sets of houses, each with four rooms. In addition to the main house, there are 108 rooms on the left and right sides, including a reception hall, dining hall, study, side room, bedroom, etc., covering an area of more than 7,600 square meters. The courtyard walls are made of blue bricks and covered with green tiles, and the roof ridge is decorated with flying eaves and corners. The gate frame and door panels are made of thick logs, which are still thick and sturdy today. The walls under the eaves are painted with exquisite murals of various flowers, birds, insects, fish, and auspicious beasts, some of which are still brightly colored. Screens and window lattices are carved with pine and crane, dragon and phoenix, unicorn palace, and eight immortals crossing the sea. Each row of houses in the courtyard is carefully constructed. Two straight columns support the eaves, and the two raised roof ridges show the glorious history of the Fan family.
