Farewell Spit

#summervacay Farewell Spit is a narrow sand spit stretching 34 kilometers into the sea from the tip of Golden Bay. It’s a protected nature reserve and bird sanctuary, home to thousands of migratory and native birds. Summer brings out the area’s unique beauty, with warm weather, bright skies, and excellent visibility. While the inner beach is open to the public, most of the spit can only be accessed through guided eco-tours, which often include visits to the historic lighthouse and sand dune landscapes. It's an off-the-beaten-path experience for nature lovers and photographers, offering sweeping views, fascinating wildlife, and a sense of solitude.
