Exploring the Paradise of Germany's Königssee

Königssee, meaning "King's Lake," is located in the southeastern corner of Bavaria, Germany, near the border town of Berchtesgaden between Germany and Austria. It lies in the German Alps, south of Salzburg, Austria. The lake's water is emerald green and crystal clear, making it a renowned tourist destination. Königssee was formed during the Ice Age. Its shoreline stretches 19.96 kilometers, covering an area of 5.218 square kilometers. The lake has an average depth of 98.1 meters, with its deepest point reaching 190 meters, making it the deepest lake in Germany. Completely surrounded by the Alps, it includes Germany's second-highest peak, the Watzmann massif. One of the highlights of a boat trip on Königssee, aside from capturing stunning photos, is the live musical performance that tests the lake's resonance effect, amplified by the surrounding mountains. At the end of the trail near the upper lake, you'll find a small waterfall. The round-trip walking distance is approximately 8 kilometers and takes about 4.5 hours.
