Staycation at Koreana Hotel in Gwanghwamun!

To ensure I could reach Gimpo Airport by 7 AM the next day, I searched for accommodations in the northern part of Seoul and made a same-day reservation at this iconic hotel near Gwanghwamun. Last time, I chose the Gangnam Dormy Inn, a Japanese hotel chain, but its 15-square-meter size led me to prioritize finding a larger room this time. Since I planned to check out by 6 AM, breakfast was not included. Having booked over 250 nights at Japanese hotels, I found browsing Seoul hotels through hotel apps to be incredibly entertaining. After finishing work, I packed my bags and headed to the hotel. Conveniently located between Gwanghwamun Station and City Hall Station, it offers easy access from anywhere. The hotel provides views of Gyeongbokgung Palace and Deoksugung Palace, but the room I reserved offered partial views of Namsan Tower and Gyeongbokgung Palace, though the actual view was mostly of the Seoul Finance Center. The building, nearly 50 years old, resembles the interior of a tourist hotel in rural Japan, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Despite its age, the hotel retains a classic and antique charm, as it was originally built as a high-end establishment. From Instagram photos, it seems that the premium rooms and above have undergone partial renovations. Its location allows for walking access to Cheonggyecheon, Bukchon, Myeongdong, and other areas, making it a cost-effective choice for foreign visitors before the pandemic. With a spacious 36-square-meter room, proximity to subway stations, and city views, I was very satisfied. The deep and wide bathtub was perfect for relieving fatigue. Thank you.
