Nantou Ancient City 🧱

We entered Nantou Ancient City through a narrow stone arch, half expecting it to be another tourist stop but it wasn’t. It was quieter than we thought, more worn-in, more real. Cracked walls leaned into time, tangled vines crept along rooftops, and between tiny courtyards, we caught glimpses of everyday life an old man watering plants, a woman folding laundry to the sound of Cantonese opera from a dusty radio. History wasn’t behind glass here it lived between the bricks. 🪨📻🪴 Further in, modern art galleries tucked into Qing dynasty buildings whispered of a city trying to breathe in both directions past and future at once. Graffiti wrapped around temples. Coffee shops stood beside ancestral halls. And still, the air felt steady.
