Sofia | Bulgaria's Capital of Yogurt, Hot Springs, and Summer Heat

A return to the Schengen Area after a long time. This city is known for its yogurt and hot springs. Continuing my journey through the Balkan Peninsula, I arrived in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria 🇧🇬. It's been a while since I last entered the Schengen Area. For those on extended European trips, the Schengen Agreement's 90-day stay rule can be quite tricky. If you don't plan your route carefully, it can significantly impact your travel itinerary. 🥣【Bulgaria is synonymous with yogurt!】 Supermarkets in Sofia are lined with various types of yogurt. While there are different varieties based on milk fat content, honestly, I couldn't tell much of a difference (haha). That said, every type I tried had a natural tanginess and richness that made them undeniably delicious! 💧【Hot springs in the middle of the city!?】 In the heart of Sofia, I witnessed locals bringing large containers to collect hot spring water. Drinking hot spring water is quite rare, and when I tried it, it had a subtle mineral taste. The hot spring fountain near "Banya Bashi Mosque" in the city center is particularly famous. 🌡️【Summer in Europe is scorching】 During this time of year, Sofia experiences temperatures exceeding 30°C, making daytime walks a test of endurance. It's best to focus on sightseeing in the morning or evening and spend the rest of the day relaxing in cafes or parks. 📍【Final Thoughts】 Bulgaria often has a modest image, but it’s packed with unexpected charms like yogurt, hot springs, nature, and food culture. Strolling through Sofia offers a glimpse into local life, and I highly recommend it.
