From Chi Feng's Charm to Da Dao Cheng’s Dusk Delight

On our last day in Taipei, we set out to explore several iconic spots in the city, each rich with its own unique charm and history. Our first stop was Chi Feng Street, a vibrant area renowned for its lively atmosphere and bustling cafes. The street is a haven for food enthusiasts, with a diverse range of trendy eateries. One particularly popular spot is Dumbo Cafe, known for its playful retro vibe and aesthetically pleasing decor. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a seat inside due to the crowd, but we were able to grab some takeaway and enjoy it on the quirky yellow, vintage-style chairs outside—perfect for snapping a few memorable photos. Wandering down the side alleys of Chi Feng was a delightful experience in itself, as the relaxed atmosphere and hidden gems made each turn a new discovery. From there, we ventured to Di Hua Street, one of Taipei’s oldest and most historic streets. This area is steeped in tradition, famous for its Chinese medicinal halls that have been operating for over a century. Here, you’ll find shops brimming with dried herbs, traditional medicines, and other specialty goods. Although we didn’t make any purchases, we took our time to stroll through the street, appreciating the beautifully preserved architecture that harks back to Taiwan's colonial era. The blend of Baroque-style buildings and traditional Fujian influences tells the story of a bygone era when Di Hua Street was a major trading hub. As the day drew to a close, we headed to Da Dao Cheng Wharf, a historic riverside district that once served as a key port for trade. Today, the area has transformed into a lively gathering spot, especially during sunset. The wharf was buzzing with energy, featuring colourful container food trucks offering everything from craft beers and cocktails to tasty street food. Relaxing by the water with a cold beer in hand, while watching the sun dip below the horizon, was the perfect way to end our day. The sight of the sunset casting its warm glow over the river was simply breathtaking—a perfect blend of history, culture, and modern leisure.
