The Rebirth and Guardianship of the Old Shrine in the Forest: Tateho Shrine

In Hida Folk Village, my steps were drawn to a tranquil old shrine—this is Tateho Shrine. It is actually a combination of three shrines: Hosuna Shrine, Hakusan Shrine, and Kunisaku Daijin Shrine. Originally located elsewhere, it was relocated here due to the construction of a reservoir, allowing its original appearance to be preserved and reimagined amidst the forest. The current worship hall and stage still retain their old-fashioned charm. Approaching them, you can feel the rustic scent of wood and the warmth of history. The shrine's offering hall is set within the forest and connected by a wooden walkway called "Hanamichi," which adds an elegant and ceremonial touch. Interestingly, the stage in front of the shrine is still used for performing folk arts, allowing the culture to continue thriving in this relocated settlement. Standing quietly before Tateho Shrine, I seemed to see the festivals and dances of the past, once again experiencing the wisdom of Hida people living in harmony with nature. 🙏🌲 📍 Location: Hida Folk Village, Tateho Shrine (Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture)
