[Tokyo/Enoshima Sugiyama Shrine] A shrine in Sumida Ward that is associated with Enoshima

The enshrined deity, Sugiyama Kazuichi, was a blind acupuncturist. One day, while undergoing fasting training in a cave in Enoshima, he invented the tube acupuncture method. His treatment techniques were recognized and he received assistance from Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. A huge achievement for Sugiyama Kazuichi was that he established acupuncture as a profession for the blind. Tsunayoshi gave him land in Honjo Hitotsume and enshrined Ejima Benzaiten. And so it has continued to this day. This is a shrine where many people who take the exam to become nationally qualified acupuncturists pray.
