According to legend, Nishiarai Daishi Sojiji Temple was built by Kukai, who came to Japan in the 9th century to teach esoteric Buddhism. After years of destruction, the original building structure is no longer visible, but you can walk around and visit the interesting Shingon temple. You can go there any time of the year, but if you happen to be in Tokyo during a seasonal festival, be sure to visit. There is a wind chime festival in July, and a summer festival with traditional Bon Odori dance at the end of August.
