Overnight stay in Tumen - right on the North Korean border!

Looking to tick off a bucket list item for some of the more dark hearted tourists, myself and a few friends went to Tumen. It’s a very small town in China which sits on the Tumen river and looks across to North Korea. There’s a strong police and military presence and hosts a border control office along the bridge that links the two nations together. The hotel we stayed at, Tumen Bali Fashion Hotel, was a great stay. The host was friendly and very excited to see some foreigners. We arrived relatively late at night and hadn’t eaten but he was able to help guide us to a dumpling restaurant. Props to the adorable puppies there! We were visited by police when we checked in just to ask some standard security questions but this wasn’t a problem and the police spoke surprisingly good English. You may be able to walk around the park on the river but you must be very mindful and can’t take any photos looking directly into North Korea. Any foreigners found doing so will be asked to delete their photos and be questioned for their purpose in Tumen. I definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to get a glimpse of North Korea but I urge everyone to just take care with their actions. #travel #china #tumen #northkorea
