Rishiri Island: A hidden spring spot

Rishiri Island Rishirifuji Town Hidden spring water spot Choju-no-Mizu Rishiri Island is home to the beautiful Mt. Rishiri (1,721m above sea level), where rainwater that falls on the mountain and melting snow seep into the ground. There are four spring water points on the island where water has been filtered over decades and springs up. ① Rishirifuji Town "Kanro Spring Water" ② Rishirifuji Town "Choju-no-Mizu" ③ Rishirifuji Town "Hime-numa Spring Water" ④ "Reiho Spring Water" in Rishiri Town There are also other places that don't have names but suddenly have taps installed. You can drink water for free in all of them (it's cold even in summer!) You won't have any trouble finding something to drink when touring Rishiri Island. ② Choju-no-Mizu is said to have been named by Mamiya Rinzo after drinking this spring water when he visited Rishiri Island. It is located next to the Yukiguni Inn. 12 minutes on foot or 4 minutes by bicycle from the ferry terminal. Because it's next to a ryokan, it's less conspicuous than other springs along the road or along the hiking trail, and is a spot only known to those in the know. We visited when the leaves were just starting to change color.
