In June, Yantai was filled with a salty sea breeze. This small city surrounded by the Bohai Sea is as open as the north, and more lively because of the sea. Climb Yantai Mountain in the morning of the first day. The low hill carries a heavy history, and the white wall and red roof of the lighthouse on the top of the mountain are particularly eye-catching under the blue sky. Standing on the observation deck and looking down, the red tiles of the old city are in dialogue with the modern high-rise buildings, and the sea and sky are one color in the distance. The mottled stone walls of the old sites of foreign consulates on the hillside silently tell the vicissitudes of the trading port. In the afternoon, turn to Chaoyang Street, where the old and new time and space overlap. There are fashionable cafes in the European-style buildings, and the old houses on the corner still maintain the appearance of the last century. The old man plays cards under the shade of the trees, ignoring the tourists taking pictures, and the old and new coexist harmoniously. Go to Yangma Island in the morning of the next day. The sea water under the cross-sea bridge changes from turbid yellow to turbid green. Ride an electric bike around the island, with lush mountains on the left and rugged reefs on the right. On "Zhang Island", we walked on slippery rocks to the pavilion in the sea, and the tide was in the cracks of the rocks. The village on the island retains the simple style of fishermen, and the air is filled with a faint smell of the sea. The Fisherman's Wharf in the evening is a different scene. Prague-style spire buildings spread along the bay, and yachts swayed gently. The sunset dyed the clouds golden red, couples leaned on the railings to take pictures, and children chased pigeons. When the dusk engulfed Kongtong Island in the distance, I suddenly understood why the locals said that Yantai is "the most suitable city for daze". The last day was a casual exploration. The fine sand of the First Beach shone golden in the morning light, and the newlyweds in Moon Bay took turns to take pictures with the Moon Old Man sculpture. I also like to sit on the reef and watch the sea water wash the oyster shells, making a rustling sound. Unforgettable accidental encounters: the silver fish at the feet of anglers in the early morning, the scallion-fried sea cucumbers strongly recommended by the proprietress of a small restaurant, and the enthusiastic uncle who gave directions in a thick dialect on the bus. The charm of Yantai lies in this unpretentious daily feeling - the salty and humid sea breeze blows through the streets, and fishermen and citizens share this blue sky. I got up early on the day I left to watch the sunrise. The Bohai Sea in the morning mist was glowing with soft silver light, and the early fishing boats left long wakes. The city was waking up, but I was already missing it.
