Mount Yoshino: A Famous Cherry Blossom Spot

A renowned cherry blossom spot selected as one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan." Unlike places where cherry trees were planted specifically for flower viewing, this area is deeply connected to mountain worship. In spring, approximately 30,000 cherry trees cover the entire mountain, creating a breathtaking view. Known as "Senbonzakura" (Thousand Cherry Trees), it is incredibly famous. At Mount Yoshino, there are about 30,000 cherry trees spread across four areas: "Shimo Senbon" (Lower Thousand Trees), "Naka Senbon" (Middle Thousand Trees), "Kami Senbon" (Upper Thousand Trees), and "Oku Senbon" (Inner Thousand Trees). Each area has a different blooming period, allowing visitors to enjoy the cherry blossoms for an extended season. These cherry trees are Yamazakura, offering a unique charm distinct from the popular Somei Yoshino variety. Near Kintetsu Yoshino Station, there is a station called "Senbon-guchi Station." By taking the Yoshino Mountain Ropeway, you can comfortably reach the "Shimo Senbon" area. However, during the cherry blossom season, the area gets extremely crowded, so planning with ample time is recommended. At night, the cherry blossoms are illuminated, providing a different ambiance. Since the area is quite expansive, wearing comfortable clothing and shoes is highly recommended.
