Zaragoza, this hidden gem of Spain is simply amazing to explore

💫! As the capital of the Aragon region, it perfectly blends medieval charm with modern vibrancy - less crowded, more scenic, and cheaper than Barcelona! Zaragoza was the unexpected highlight of my Spain trip. Though it's Spain's fifth-largest city, it wins with its laid-back small-town feel and affordable prices. 🛏️ Accommodation Zaragoza offers great value for lodging. Located between Madrid and Barcelona, it's perfect for an overnight stop with sightseeing the next morning. The old town and areas around the train station are ideal choices. I stayed near the station, about 4km (30-minute walk) from the main cathedral attractions. Zaragoza is famous for its architectural diversity, with key attractions concentrated in: 1️⃣ Basilica del Pilar One of Spain's largest Baroque churches, featuring Goya frescoes inside and a rooftop viewpoint overlooking the Ebro River and old town. 2️⃣ La Seo Cathedral A UNESCO World Heritage site blending Romanesque, Gothic, Mudejar and Baroque styles, just 3 minutes' walk from Pilar Basilica. 3️⃣ Aljafería Palace An 11th-century Islamic palace later converted into a Christian royal residence, showcasing exquisite Mudejar architecture. 4️⃣ Roman Ruins Route Free outdoor Roman theater ruins, with the Forum Museum displaying excavated underground market remains. 🥓🍖🍗 Around Plaza Santa Marta, tapas bars offer dishes for €1.5-3 each - probably the best value I found in all my Spanish travels, and all delicious! The old town is completely walkable. A taxi from old town to the high-speed train station costs about €10.
