Omuroyama and Jogasaki Coast: A Perfect Day Trip! ☀️⛰️

#summervacay For a recent long weekend, I picked a Sunday with glorious weather to visit Mount Omuro and the Jogasaki Coast. Getting there from Yokohama, you can choose between the JR Tokaido Line or the Shinkansen. The Shinkansen is faster, but the JR line is more budget-friendly. I headed to Mount Omuro first, so at Atami Station, I transferred to the Ito Line and got off at Izu-Kogen Station. From there, I bought a one-day bus pass for ¥900 per person at the machine opposite the bicycle rental shop. Then it was time to catch the bus! There are two lines, and you'll want Line 1 for Mount Omuro. Since it was a long weekend, it was quite crowded, and I had to wait for the next bus, but it was only about a 15-minute wait. The ride up the mountain can get a bit congested because many people drive their private cars. The bus drops you off right opposite the chairlift entrance at the foot of the mountain. Expect a queue here; when I went on April 28th, I waited over an hour under the blazing sun. Definitely remember your sunscreen or bring a parasol! The chairlift costs ¥1,000 per person, but a heads-up: your bus day pass gets you a ¥100 discount! The chairlift itself offers fantastic, open-air views, and riding it feels like the chairs are chasing you as you get on and off! It can get quite windy on the mountain, even on a hot day, so the wind felt surprisingly chilly. There are small shops selling local souvenirs and snacks; the trendy dango dumplings look great for photos.
